About QACA

QACA is a small organisation consisting of Members and supporters dedicated to saving the remaining public open spaces around the Quedgeley area.

The History

QACA was started in the late eighties, when the extensive development along Severnvale Drive was beginning. Quedgeley House was demolished in 1980 and QACA members saved its gardens, which is now Quedgeley Nature Reserve, adopted and maintained by Gloucester City Council.

Clearwater Drive Update

On Thursday 24th September the City Council withdrew their application to adopt the land known as Clearwater Drive from the County Council.

Whilst this is good news, we must not become complacent.

We must keep up the pressure to ensure Clearwater Drive is left undisturbed from ANY development.

QACA Clears Pond in Nature Reserve

On Friday 27th November 4 members of the QACA committee, and 1 volunteer, started work on pond maintenance within the Nature Reserve. We (as always) had to seek advice on Health and Safety, including stupid suggestions like e-coli, tools being used and training?. Even to the point of asking about the Great Crested Newts. We knew about Great Crested Newts that they hibernate away from the area. Which is why we started this work in late November.

After 4 hours of work, 32 wheelbarrows of rubbish was removed. Items included: 1 Tyre, 1 Rollerblade, 1 pair of boxer short?, beer bottles, paint cans and tons of wood, and bricks.  We cleared approx 1/4 of the pond. With the water level dropping significantly due to the amount of rubbish being removed. Hopefully as we are seeing large amounts of rainfall this month, it should recover. Frogs and pond snails are in abundance in the pond. Hopefully we can continue with the work.

Helping to preserve the last remaining open spaces in Quedgeley

In Memorial

This web site is dedicated to the memory of Jeff  Morgan. Born 27/03/1936 in Gloucester. Sadly passed away on 26/04/2009 after a short illness. A founder member of QACA, an inspiration to all who knew him. Husband to Hanna and father.

Quedgeley owes a huge debt to Jeff . What he saw happening to Quedgeley and his actions, saved Quedgeley from being a development with no open spaces.

Forever in his debt. Rest in Peace
